Playa San Francisco is one of the original Cozumel beaches on the leeward side of the island. It enjoyed a monopoly for many years and to this day still makes about the best Pia Coladas on the island. It even comes in the whole pineapple! Scooping the pineapple after drinking the contents is a favorite pass time.

Playa San Francisco has a fresh water pool, jet ski rentals, parasailing, banana boat rides, and a host of other activities. Since it is just north of the “Newest of Cozumel Beaches”, Paradise beach, as well as Carlos ‘n Charlies beach club, they are trying harder then ever to win your business.

The staffs are friendly and there is even an Amazon parrot that they will sometimes bring to your table to entertain you. Only on Cozumel Island Mexico!

This is busy but inviting 5-km (3-mile) expanse of sand is among the longest and finest on Cozumel. Encompassing the beaches Playa Maya and Santa Rosa, it’s typically packed with cruise-ship passengers in high season. On Sunday, locals flock here to eat fresh fish. Amenities include two outdoor restaurants, a bar, dressing rooms, gift shops, beach chairs, massage treatments, and water-sports equipment rentals. Amenities: food and drink; parking (free); showers; toilets; water sports. Best for: walking; swimming.

Not all Cozumel Beaches are created equal. Playa San Francisco has a sandy beach and bottom that has a nice gradual drop off. However, the bottom is rocky in certain areas so be careful when walking in the water. Snorkeling is not the best but equipment is available to rent should you choose to snorkel. Playa San Francisco is a very nice beach experience if you want a laid back venue.

There is protective cove to the North of the beach that helps to preserve the sand bottom. This also adds to the view.

Remember; make sure to try the Pia Coladas! And above all; enjoy Cozumel Island Mexico!
